Fall at the Farmers Market

Fall is in the air!  I love fall, it’s my favorite season.  The nights are cool, the color of the leaves brings so much wonder and the markets are full of beautiful fall produce.

I love the Farmers Market in any season but the transition form spring to summer to fall has always fascinated me.  The other day it was raining here so Steve and I made the trek to Baltimore to visit my favorite market.  To me it’s the perfect Saturday excursion.  I love the vibrant colors, and the crisp weather.

And my buddy The Bean Man was there with a full array of beans! Steve thinks I’m a bit off my rocker on this subject.  I buy a ton of fresh beans and freeze them. He’s learned to live with it but he rolls his eyes every year.  I loaded him up with fresh Lima’s, Cannellini and Black Beans, and like the gentleman he is, Steve hauled them off to the car while I continue gawking at the stalls.

There were so many things on display.  I came away with a beautiful head of Cauliflower, Butternut Squash, Cabbage and everything to make my favorite soup. Click Here for the recipe

Have you ever seen fresh turmeric?  That was quite a find along with fresh Ginger.

I’ve always been fascinated at any market but this one is my favorite.

The treat for Steve is we go to brunch at Gertrude’s at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The view of the sculpture garden is stunning, even in the rain. That keeps him happy.

Lazy days like this are the best. We came home and Steve promptly fell asleep in front of the TV while I prepared all of my precious beans for the freezer, had the soup happily bubbling on the stove and planned our meals for the week.IMG_4686

I can’t wait to see all the dishes you make with your haul of beans. I’d have wanted to just stand there and look at all those gorgeous flowers for hours.

Such beautiful photos of the farmer’s market — everything is so colorful and you can capitalize on natural lighting and candid pix of people shopping.

Monica, this looks like the perfect way to spend a day. I love going to the Farmer’s Market and always bring home too much. Thankfully, I have a large freezer for that purpose. I am glad that both you and your husband had a wonderful day.

Fall farmer’s markets are the best! My daughter in Aspen has been busy working the market with all of their harvested goods. I love getting the pics she sends me of their stall. Like you I think it is wonderful just to wander and look at all the choices and then choose what is actually going to make it home.
