Have Your Smoothie Delivered with Green Blender

What’s your go to breakfast? I know you have one…it’s what you grab on the way to work in the morning five days a week. I bet it’s something easy and if you don’t plan correctly it’s full of sugar and preservatives. I’ve developed my morning routine around a smoothie. It’s something I can throw into the blender and drink in the car and the way to wherever I’m going.

IMG_5983Have you ever heard of the Green Blender? It is the answer to my hectic mornings. It’s like having the dinner box that is ever so popular – the Blue Apron,Plated, etc. – of the smoothie. Each week the ingredients for 5 different smoothie recipes are in the box.  This totals 10 smoothies, each recipe makes two smoothies.IMG_5970Would you like to give it a try? It is no secret to anyone who knows me, my weekday routine is pretty hectic. I like to exercise in the morning. My week starts with aerial yoga, two days a week I’m scheduled for my tennis rotation, one day I take a Barre class, every day I walk the dog and if I have a free day, I’m on the treadmill or hit the gym. Usually all of this happens before nine am. That way I’m at my desk and productive for the remainder of the day.IMG_5977This means I must have something to sustain me in the mornings and solid food is too heavy. Smoothies are my ticket to health, balance and wellbeing. It’s a great way to start the day.   You know what they say – breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I do believe that.IMG_6085When I get those mid day cravings I can have another smoothie and it staves off hunger until I can concentrate on fixing food in solid form that takes a bit more prep work.  As a blogger my day can be pretty solitary so the smoothie is a great solution for lunch.  This box served me well for the week.IMG_6077I have played with my own smoothie mixes and found a few that I really love but to drink but it gets a bit boring, I do crave variety. When the Green Blender offered to send me a box, I jumped at the offer.IMG_6089My Green Blender box arrived on a Thursday evening and I couldn’t wait to dive in.  The ingredients are fresh! The recipes are curated so they are vegan, GMO-free, and organic. If there is an exception to this rule there will be a note on the recipe. I unpacked the box, laid out all of the ingredients for each smoothie and set about washing, chopping and packaging. This process only took about 30 minutes and it was so worth it. I divided each recipe so I have the contents for one smoothie in a baggie that I stored in the freezer. This is perfect for me – I grab a bag, break it up a bit, pour it into the blender, add ice and water, push the button and voilà – my smoothie is ready.IMG_6075The variety is so refreshing, two of the smoothies were greens based; one with kale, one with lettuce. The lighter green smoothie was cucumber based, then there was one flavored with green coffee, and another with carrots.  Each smoothie has the perfect balance of healthy fats, fruits/vegetables and additives such as oats, flax, nuts, ginger, etc. if left to my own devices my freezer bags would be the same every day, week after week and then after a month or so I would change them up.IMG_5968Each morning I found myself looking forward to what new flavor I would pull out of the freezer. If you prefer to have your ingredients fresh, they will last for over a week in the refrigerator.IMG_5975Now the green Blender is the my morning hero. I just love having the variety in the freezer in the morning. As I said, I’m a grab and go girl….

Lepre-clean Smoothie

Recipe courtesy of Green Blender If you find yourself waking up after a fun night of revelries with a bit of a headache, this traditional detox smoothie should have you right as rain in no time. Flaxseeds contain a healthy dose of Omega-3s, fiber and antioxidants, and have been shown to lower cholesterol and even possibly protect against hot flashes. Add in some anti-inflammatory power from ginger, some hydration from cucumber and honeydew, and an alkalizing effect from lemon, and you’ve got a smoothie that will give your body and your mind a clean feel, no matter what went on the night before.
Ingredients
  • 1 persian cucumber
  • 1 apple - chopped
  • 5 oz honeydew
  • ½ inch ginger
  • ½ lemon - juiced
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ice
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
